Marvão - to the northeast of the Alentejo region and a short distance from the Spanish border. The property is a 2 and a half hour drive from Lisbon and a 4 hour drive from Faro.
GENERAL DESCRIPTIONAccommodation: Quinta/Estate with 3 self-catering cottages, sleep 2, 4 and 6 guests
This idyllic Quinta is definitely the place to get away from it all and sample the peace and quiet of nature. The property nestles on a hillside below the medieval village and castle of Marvão. It boasts a truly unique setting with spectacular views of the snow-capped Serra da Estrela mountain range in the far distance and of the rolling plains of the Rodão Valley below. The estate has 12 hectares of wild, rocky, hilly landscape for exploring, walking or picnicking. There are many fruit trees to choose from: orange, peach, apple and cherry and there is nearly always something ripe and juicy to pick throughout the year. We enjoyed freshly squeezed orange juice for breakfast each morning from the orange trees just outside our window!
It is difficult to talk about this property and not mention Michiel and Magreet, the delightful Dutch owners. They will welcome you and encourage you to enjoy their property to the full. They will tell you the history of their Quinta and of how they built it up from a couple of hillside ruins. Magreet kindly leaves fresh bread and other necessary provisions in your kitchen for your arrival. And of course there is Splinter, their adorable golden retriever dog who will delight everyone he meets, not least of all the children. We can guarantee you will be well looked after and have an enjoyable stay.
